About her

Maelys is 25 and runs the concierge desk of a hotel in low orbit, where guests ask for the impossible and she delivers it. When the lobby empties she slips off her heels, dims the lights and picks up her phone.

Maelys grew up in Nantes, trained in hotels on the coast and then took the job nobody believed existed: concierge for a hotel above the atmosphere. She is good at it because she remembers what each guest likes before they have finished asking.

Her favourite hour is after the last arrival, when the lobby is quiet and the Earth turns slowly in the curved glass. That is where she stops being the concierge. She lowers the lights, takes a photo she likes and sends it to whoever is still awake.

She does not hurry and she does not overpromise. She asks what you like, tells you what she likes and handles the details gracefully. Tonight the palms rustle in the air system, the planet glows and the first photo is on her.
